Homogeneous Again
“For the next three weeks Anne and
Priscilla continued to feel as strangers in a strange land. Then,
suddenly, everything seemed to fall into focus- Redmond, professors,
classes, students, studies, social doings. Life became homogeneous
again, instead of being made up of detached fragments.”
-Anne

Greetings
from Oxford!- a land of ancient saints and contemporary atheists, of
Christian apologists and aggressive apostates, of Christian
professors and a cultural penchant for paganism. In other words, a
city somewhere between the Shire and Mordor as I am finding out fast!
(Word
of wisdom- if you are invited to a BOP, you probably don’t want to
go! Message me if you want to know what a BOP is!)
Also, for those of you who are kind enough to comment on my posts-
for whatever reason, Blogger doesn’t let me see who comments, so if
you would like to NOT remain anonymous, please sign your name, thank
you!

on my way to New College)
Like
described above, life has become homogeneous again. I have a primary
tutor now, as well as a secondary tutor, praise the Lord!
On Monday I met with my
Primary Tutor, Dr. Steve
Kershaw, fellow of
Ancient Roman Culture. It was amazing! He is very nice, and very
knowledgeable, and also has my dream job- consulting! My first
assignment from him is a paper approximately 1,500 words on the Ara
Pacis (the Alter of Peace), which I will be honest- I was embarrassed
to say I have never heard of it until now. Nevertheless,
it sounds like it will be a very interesting topic, and I can’t
wait to explore it. He also emphasized to me that he wanted me to
enjoy my time here, so we can take our time and explore our topics.
All in all, I am very excited that I have the chance to learn from
him.
On
Thursday I have my Secondary tutorial with Dr. Alison Pollard, fellow
of Ancient Roman Archaeology. I’m unsure of what to expect, but I
am excited and nervous!
The World View lesson on Friday went well- it is about a 35 minute bus ride into the English Countryside, which provides a good excuse to take pictures! It was slightly intimidating, but I am excited to see how I grow throughout the course. Kevin (my world view tutor) also introduced us girls to his family, and that was nice to be included in a family atmosphere.
Last
Sunday, I met a fellow American at church (Emma), and we met for Hot
Chocolate today at a cute little cake shop down the road from my
flat. I have a feeling she is a Kindred Spirit! I also have decided that I really like St. Aldates (my church that I am attending here). It feels like Home away from Home.
Tomorrow is gonna be a glorious day- I don’t have to leave my flat for any reason! Meaning I get (have to) to write my first paper for my Anthropology course, it's due on the 30. It is my introverted dream:)

trying to find a book, to
which they did not have)
(Speaking of books- stopped by
Blackwells for the 1st time today.
This is just the basement, there
are 3 other floors!)

through on our way to
Kevin's)

me to look "artsy" and
look off into the distance)
(My favorite picture of all- I
met a random cat walking on the
sidewalk today, and it let me
pet it!)
Lovely pictures! Thanks for sharing!
